Mission

Oak Grove’s mission is to restore God’s creation by using our congregations’ resources and talents in service to our community and the world. To realize our vision:

  • We support a diversity of people and organizations, both locally and globally.
  • We incorporate mission in our worship and educational opportunities.
  • We encourage fellowship activities to have a mission component.
  • We offer our facilities for a wide variety of uses.
  • We support denominational mission efforts.
  • Through prayer, we seek God’s guidance, blessing and support for all aspects of mission.

Anti-Racism Advocacy

Oak Grove’s Social Justice Committee strives to promote social justice and the concept of fair and just relations between the individual and society. The Anti-Racism Advocacy subcommittee focuses on supporting racial justice and racial equity.

Mark 12:30-31 30 you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” (NRSV)

Oak Grove Elders’ and Deacons’ Statement on Racial Justice (September 22, 2020). “We, the Elders and Deacons of Oak Grove Presbyterian Church, stand in solidarity with you, our Black, Indigenous, and Brown siblings of color. We acknowledge that our experiences have often blinded us to your cries for justice. We acknowledge your experiences of discrimination and violence as truth. We commit to listen and seek to understand and will not hide behind a right to comfort when the conversations are hard. We commit to holding ourselves and others accountable to become and continue to be anti-racist for “as you use steel to sharpen steel, so one friend sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17  (The Message by Eugene Peterson).

LGBTQ+ Equity

We are fully welcoming of LGBTQ+ folks and have an active Rainbow Fellowship. Our restrooms are fully accessible for all genders.

Oak Grove’s Rainbow Fellowship is a ministry of Oak Grove Presbyterian Church. Members of the LGBTQIA+ community and Allies are a part of this group with the purpose of supporting and providing resources for families and members.

Environmental Justice

Oak Grove’s Green Committee works to conserve water and to make Oak Grove net zero – carbon neutral (to produce more clean energy than we consume) through conservation, purchasing or producing clean energy for 100% or more of our electricity, and offsetting carbon emissions of our natural gas and other fossil fuel use. Oak Grove is certified as a Presbyterian Earth Care Congregation.

The Green Committee hosts annual expos showcasing electric vehicles and clean energy.

Housing Justice

Oak Grove’s Supportive Housing subcommittee supports individuals and families in unstable housing situation and explores ways to prevent homelessness and create stability in our community.

Oak Grove houses and provides support to OASIS for Youth.

Hands-On Opportunities

Oak Grove provides numerous hands-on opportunities in service to our community and the world. Some of these include assisting our Afghan refugee families, creating craft and baked items for the annual Alternative Christmas Market, woodcutting at Clearwater Forest, serving at Loaves and Fishes, volunteering at expos and fundraisers, and many more.
