Erica Schemper

Introducing Erica Schemper

Oak Grove is pleased to introduce Rev. Erica Schemper, who has been approved by Session as the Pastor for Congregational Education. Pastor Erica will start her ministry at Oak Grove on Monday, July 15. Her first Sunday in worship will be July 21.

Erica Schemper (she/her) is a Presbyterian, PC(USA), minister who has served churches in the Chicago area and Northern California. In addition to PC(USA) congregations, she’s also worked for ELCA and UCC congregations, and spent two years working as the religion teacher at a school in the Garfield Park neighborhood on Chicago’s West Side.

Her professional interests include children, youth, and intergenerational ministry, and healthy congregational systems. She lives in St. Paul, Minn., with her family: spouse Erik, and kids Zora (17), Abram (13), and Hazel (9). She enjoys reading, road trips, knitting, and long walks with her dog.

Two Part-Time Pastors

Earlier this year, Pastor Mary expressed a desire to move to a part-time basis sometime this summer. Several staffing models and options were explored, and Session determined that the best way forward was to split Mary’s responsibilities into two part-time pastor positions: a Pastor for Congregational Care and a Pastor for Congregational Education. Pastor Mary will remain full-time until mid-August and then transition to part-time in the latter part of August.
