In 2025 we are inviting the congregation to read the Bible in a year. We have a reading plan and various events to encourage and support your reading. We will also focus most sermons for 2025 from the daily readings, and we will offer some educational opportunities along the way.

Year of the Bible FAQ
The Bible will be the theme for the entire year of 2025 at Oak Grove Presbyterian Church. We are encouraging everyone to join in to read the entire Bible in one year. Here are some Frequently Asked Questions about the Year of the Bible.How does reading the Bible in a year work?
We will provide a reading plan for every day of the year. You will read about three chapters a day, which should take about 15 to 20 minutes per day.
Will we read the bible straight through from Genesis to Revelation?
No. The schedule alternates between the Old Testament and New Testament readings and sprinkles in a Psalm here or there through each week.
Is there a guidebook?
Yes, if you would like a guidebook, there is one available. It includes the daily reading schedule and introductions for each month. It is not essential that everyone have a guidebook. For those that would like one, we ask, if you are able, to donate $10 to help cover the cost.
What version of the Bible should I read?
That is entirely up to you! There are some translations that try to stick to the original languages as close as possible, and other translations that paraphrase the original languages closely.
The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV or NRSVUE) is an example of a translation that is more literal and attempts to be as close as possible to the original languages.
The Message is an example of a translation that is more of a paraphrase and is in more contemporary language making it easier to read for some people.
The Common English Bible (CEB) falls somewhere between the two, where it tries to stay close to the original language and also attempts to make it easier to read to modern ears.

Do I need a study Bible?
How will people reading the Bible in a year be supported?
A variety of ways:
- Sermons on most Sundays of 2025 will be based on scripture from the previous week’s reading.
- We will have a question-and-answer box where anyone can submit a question that may have.
- We will focus several education events on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights on topics about the Bible.
- Thursday Bible Study at 12 noon on Zoom will focus on the particular scripture that is used for the basis of the coming Sunday’s sermon. Most Sundays in 2025, the scripture will be from one of the Year of the Bible readings.
- We will gather at the beginning of the year, middle of the year, and end of the year to celebrate together.
- We encourage people to have an “accountability partner” that can support one another to stay on track with your reading.

Bibleproject.com is a wonderful website with many resources. There are articles, podcasts, and short videos on a variety of topics. They also have an app.
