Author Chad Montrie will present “Minnesota is a Paradox”
Wednesday, August 9, 7:00 p.m. at Oak Grove
Join us as Chad Montrie unpacks Chapter 1 and 7 of his book, Whiteness in Plain View: A History of Racial Exclusion in Minnesota, specifically focusing on Bloomington’s history of racial exclusion. Gain insight into our community’s foundation build on white supremacy and land theft, and learn how our state, widely seen as “the progressive stronghold of the Midwest,” continues to have some of the greatest racial disparities in our nation. This event offers an opportunity to confront the real truth about our history of white supremacy in Bloomington and make steps to collectively work toward repairing deep-seated racial divisions that persist today. We invite everyone who is interested in building racial equity into the fabric of our city to join us for this conversation.
If you’d like to read this book prior to the event, you can grab a copy of Whiteness in Plain View at Oak Grove Presbyterian Church during office hours, Sunday mornings in the narthex, or at the event for a donation of $20. After covering expenses, all proceeds from book sales will be donated to Makoce Ikikcupi Land Recovery. You can also purchase the book from the Minnesota History Center or your favorite bookseller.
